WWE: NXT’s Asuka set to break Goldberg’s legendary 173-0 streak

first_imgIn the recent past, WWE has poached top stars from the independent (indie) promotion scene to supports the ever-growing rosters on its three prominent properties, Raw, SmackDown and NXT.Though it has been common practise for WWE, what is different is the booking and general treatment of these wrestlers, Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Balor being prime examples.The next big star coming from NXT, Asuka has been given a tremendous push so much so that she has gone undefeated since her debut back in 2015.  WWE has building her up as the challengers to break Golberg’s legendary WCW streak of 173-0 and that took 174 days as champion way back in 1997-1998.Last Thursday, the Empress of Tomorrow teaming with Hideo Itami & Aliyah defeated the alliance of Billie Kay, Peyton Royce & Andrade Almas. Asuka was the one to get pinning Billie at the end of the usual mixed tag chaos.On Thursday night (May 11) in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Empress of Tomorrow teamed with Hideo Itami & Aliyah to defeat Billie Kay, Peyton Royce & Andrade “Cien” Almas, with Asuka pinning Billie in the end after the usual mixed tag team chaos.The victory took her streak to ‘173’, same as Goldberg and which leaves her needing just one more win to set a new benchmark for wrestling fans to look upto.But the record and streak is disputed with many in the WWE Universe claiming that Asuka has lost matches without being pinned or submitted, both on NXT (live events or televised), including a notable televised battle royal defeat.advertisementlast_img read more
