1 Daniel Agger It feels like Arsenal have been linked with just about every centre-half in the world in the last few weeks.Arsene Wenger has vowed to buy a replacement if Thomas Vermaelen departs as expected – and the rumour mill has been in overdrive with several names a day being mentioned.Daniel Agger is the latest to be linked and it appears there’s plenty of legs in this one. He has been told he can leave Liverpool, he’s a similar player to Vermaelen and Wenger is known to be a big fan. Most Arsenal fans seem keen on the Dane, but I think if we sign the 29-year-old it would be a huge mistake.I like Agger, but he’s not the most solid or reliable centre-back and his injury problems are a big worry. He’s not going to improve at Arsenal and you can just see him getting one bad injury, before quickly ending up becoming dead wood.Let’s face, he loves Liverpool through and through. He doesn’t really want to go and was in tears when asking for a move last week. He’s been forced out and, while his experience would be handy, he’d be arriving on a negative spiral and I doubt he’d be up for the fight of battling Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for a starting place.I’ve already thrown my weight behind Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic in this column, and I think he’d be great, but if we can’t sign him – Agger shouldn’t be our back up option.Too expensive, too injury prone, too risky; let’s not settle for second best, just because we need to sign somebody.
