CAL STATE WOMEN’S TENNIS UC Riverside cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Cal State San Bernarino in non-conference action at the Student Recreation Center. The best match came at No. 1 singles where the Highlanders Erynne Oki defeated the Coyotes Jennifer Joy 7-6, 6-1. Joy needs one win for the most in school history. CHAFFEY SOFTBALL Melissa Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell 3-2 to Palomar. Palomar scored three runs in the first three innings, which was just enough against Chaffey (11-9), who could only muster one seventh-inning run when two were necessary to force extra innings. Chaffey will have a week off before opening league play on Feb. 28 against College of the Desert. Cerritos pushed across four runs aided by two errors in beating visiting Chaffey 4-1 in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon. The unlucky loser was David MacCarthy, who went six innings and gave up four hits, striking out five. First baseman Josh Manzano collected four of the Panthers six hits.
