The Huskers have one of the great traditions in college football though. It wasn’t all that long ago that the program was competing for national championships. Of course, plenty has changed since the halcyon days of Husker football. The team now competes in the Big Ten. It is hard to argue against that move, given the financial and stability advantages afforded by the league. Back in the day, though, Nebraska had it pretty good in the Big Eight/12.Nebraska has a pretty big edge on many of its former conference rivals. Pick Six Previews posted the longest winning streaks against a single opponent in college football history, and Nebraska is very well represented.Nebraska’s decades-long streak against Kansas football is the second-longest of all time. The Huskers beat the Jayhawks every year from 1969 to 2004. Nebraska is 91-23-3 overall in the series, which seems surprisingly close, given the 36-year win streak. Most consecutive wins over an opponent (All-Time)43- Notre Dame over Navy (’64-’04)36- Nebraska over Kansas (’69-04)32- OU over Kansas St (’37-’68)31- PSU over Temple (’52-’14)31- UF over Kentucky (CURRENT)29- Nebraska over KansasSt (’69-’97)29- Clemson over UVA (’55-’89)— Pick Six Previews (@PickSixPreviews) June 12, 2018Out of the 15 longest consecutive win streaks over an opponent:Nebraska has FOUR.No other team has more than one. https://t.co/UxzoJTYl9X— Pick Six Previews (@PickSixPreviews) June 12, 2018The first tweet shows the top two Nebraska streaks: vs. Kansas and vs. Kansas State. Old conference rivalries against schools from the Sunflower State were kind to the Huskers. As Pick Six Previews notes, Nebraska appears in the top 15 two more times. The other two were both 24-game streaks. From 1979-2002, Nebraska recorded 24 straight wins over Missouri. 1974-1999 saw a 24-game win streak against Oklahoma State, though the two teams did not match up during two of those seasons.Only two of Nebraska’s major former conference mates have the historical upper-hand in their series against the Huskers. Longtime rival Oklahoma is 45-38-3 against the Huskers. Texas, which spent less time in the same league, as the Big Eight and SWC did not merge until 1996, is 10-4 in the series.
