The significance of this news is best illustrated by the fact that in addition to the Special Hospital Sv. The property taxes in Wellington are way too damn high.” On another note….3 Chinese places to eat at now. The two we have are good but a third? As well we have 3 Mexican choices….4 if you want to count Taco Bell. We did have two Subways, until the Wal-Mart one closed. I’m all for expanding Wellington and bringing some different choices for an evening of dining but somebody needs to do something a little bit different. The Western Sizzelin concept was nice and enjoyed by the community. Having an american style food buffet would in my opinion would be better suited. The great thing about “buffet” is it is pretty versatile. You can have about anything on it on any day. We all need to invest in this community to grow it. The more people we can get to move here the more that tax base is stretched across the board. Build it and they will come. Look around we are falling behind the communities that surround Wichita. Seems whatever is mentioned people are against… Report Reply 1 reply · active 331 weeks ago +17 Vote up Vote down crusader pride · 331 weeks ago Glad to see someone move into that building. .best of luck. No where in town serves a soup and salad bar like The Wellington Steakhouse. Not to mention the fun times at the Round Up Room. We have passed bond after bond and raised taxes many times over in the 50 yrs plus I have lived here and we STILL KEEP LOSING PEOPLE. Only ones getting rich are the ones the funds benefit cause they damn sure don’t benefit the average tax payer. Keep hearing this build it they will come. New high school is over 12 yrs old now and fewer kids now than back then. OPEN YOUR EYES and stop swallowing that obama propaganda. We can not continue to tax our way out of this mess. He looks for it to open either in the last part of May or the early part of June. The new restaurant will be independently run and not part of a chain franchise. The buffet will feature popular Chinese items including a select number of American food items.“It will depend on what the Wellington people like,” Bhakta said. The restaurant will open after a more than 16 months of being vacant. The last restaurant at the Steakhouse facility was “The Rock” owned and operated by Tudi McCreary. She shut the restaurant down in December of 2012 after one year in operation. The Steakhouse Motel is currently in operation on the back end of the facility.Bhakta said there is also someone looking to lease the bar area, but they are still in negotiations.“The problem is he doesn’t want to pay the rent because it’s too high,” Bhakta said. “I told him I have no choice. The property taxes in Wellington are way too damn high.”Built in the mid-1990s to replace a Western Sizzlin that burned dowsn, the Wellington Steakhouse was operated by Ray Potter of Winfield and was a popular destination for local residents to eat American food. It also served as a meeting destination for civic groups and the location for several weddings and large group events.Bhatka said the restaurant banner will be erected at the facility in a few days advertising the new Chinese restaurant.last_img read more
