TG look to remain on top

first_img Today’s games Tivoli Gardens will look to maintain pole position when they face the University of the West Indies (UWI) FC in a top clash in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex today at 3 p.m. The match is crucial for both teams. Tivoli are on top on 42 points, the same as Montego Bay United. However, Tivoli enjoys a better goal difference, while UWI are in third position on 39. UWI’s coach Marcel ‘Fuzzy’ Gayle says although playing away, his team will be going to Tivoli’s home ground for a positive result. “It will be the last game in the second round of the preliminary stage, and a win could move us on the same points as Tivoli. We are going there for a positive result,” Gayle said on Friday. UWI will be missing midfielder Ramoun Reid, who is serving a one-match suspension after a red card picked up in his team’s last game against Humble Lion two weeks ago. “He will be missed, but it is also an opportunity for another player in the squad,” the coach said. UWI will welcome back striker Girvon Brown, who ended a one-year deal at CD Dragon in El Salvador. “Girvon Brown will be in the squad for tomorrow’s game. He is back and the international clearance was done, so he could be involved in the game,” Gayle informed. UWI will rely on players such as captain Rochane Smith, Keammar ‘Dada’ Daley, Kemar Flemmings, Patrick Brown and Jamie Robinson. Coach of Tivoli Omar Edwards says his team is intent on keeping UWI behind them. “We understand that UWI are improving. They beat us in the first round, so we are going out to turn that around. UWI are three points behind us, so we just have to prepare for that contest,” Edwards said. Tivoli will come for another home win courtesy of veteran Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson, Elton Thompson, captain Romaine Breakenridge and Tevin Shaw. – 3 p.m: Reno vs Montego Bay United at STETHS Complex – 3 p.m: Arnett Gardens vs Jamalco at Anthony Spaulding Complex – 3 p.m: Humble Lion vs Boys’ Town at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon – 3 p.m: Tivoli Gardens vs UWI at Edward Seaga Sports Complex – 5 p.m: Maverley-Hughenden vs Waterhouse at Drewsland Stadium – 7 p.m: Harbour View vs Portmore United at Harbour View Stadiumlast_img read more
