How Liverpool can line up under Klopp – exciting new tactics and attack for the Reds

first_imgReports suggest Jurgen Klopp, who is currently out of work having left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, is set to replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool Football Club. It’s claimed that he could be unveiled within the next 48 hours. Therefore, it seems timely to now turn attention away from speculation over the candidates to succeed Rodgers, and rather discuss what Klopp will bring to the Merseyside outfit.During Rodgers’ three years at Anfield, the Northern Irish manager was unsuccessful in his attempts to establish a settled formation. He has been described as having an unhealthy ‘obsession’ with a 4-3-3 formation, while he also often dabbled with 3-4-1-2, which, despite far more successful than the former, never felt like a favoured formation.10 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT JURGEN KLOPPAs such, Liverpool’s identity on the pitch over the past three seasons was difficult to understand and to predict.Klopp, however, appears to have a favoured formation in 4-2-3-1 – also prized by Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United – that reaped rewards during his tenure at the Westfalenstadion. On occasion, when injury forced him to alter his tactics, he too deployed a 4-3-1-2 and 4-3-3 formation. This was Dortmund’s XI for Klopp’s last game in charge of the Bundesliga side against Vfl Wolfsburg in the German Cup final:With such uncertainty over Liverpool’s formation during Rodgers’ spell on Merseyside, Klopp’s priority must surely be to settle his players into a regular position – just as Chelsea did so successfully in their title-winning last season – and it’s expected that he will remain loyal to 4-2-3-1. Taking on board his predicted formation, therefore, we’ve put together a line up that could be Liverpool’s strongest. If given the green light, Klopp is likely to step into the transfer market and may already have a wish list drawn up, yet with the January window a few months away, he will have to nurture the players that he has at his disposal, and, this could be his first choice XI:With Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings, Emre Can and Adam Lallana not included in this line up, Klopp will have plenty of options on the bench.Firmino’s development could be crucial to Klopp, particularly with rumours that Coutinho is keen on a move to Barcelona. Meanwhile, captain Jordan Henderson, while expected to be first choice in central midfield, is not set to return from injury until mid-November. Emre Can could be his replacement. Failing this, a re-shuffle in attack could see James Milner fill the role, with Jordan Ibe on the wing. Undoubtedly this will be Klopp’s biggest challenge thus far in his career, with settling a formation just one of the many areas that must be targetted at Liverpool.Yet if he is to be unveiled by the end of this week, it’s evidence that his infectious enthusiasm for the game remains firmly intact. Are you excited by this possible formation that Jurgen Klopp could introduce at Liverpool?
