Nicholls’ Lewis Cox Named Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Nicholls returns to Southland action Wednesday when New Orleans (4-5, 0-0 SLC) heads into town for a 2 p.m. CT start. The Colonels then host Alcorn State on Thursday at 1 p.m. and UIW (5-7, 0-0 SLC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. Honorable Mention: None. In his only match this week, Cox defeated UTRGV’s Zane Kohrs in straight sets at the No. 5 flight. He gave up just four points across the match, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-1. With rain in the forecast, doubles were not played. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
